of body + mind consciousness
the benefits
Consistent yoga and movement improves your mind-body connection, giving you a better awareness of your own body. Including mental clarity and stress reduction. During yoga, you learn to make small, subtle movements to improve your alignment, and putting you in better touch with your physical body. You also overtime learn to accept your body as it is without judgment. You will be feeling more comfortable in your own body - boosting your self-confidence. When put together, the benefits of yoga, movement and inner growth, add to increased feelings of well-being that lasts. Explains basically why so many people find mindful movement and inner growth so addictive. We are..

Moving your body and stretching in new ways will help you become more flexible and bring a greater range of motion to tight areas. Over time, if you are patient, you can expect to gain flexibility in your hamstrings, back, shoulders, and hips. Increased flexibility and strength can help prevent the causes of some types of back pain.

As you get older, our flexibility usually decreases, especially if you spend a lot of time sitting or driving a car, which causes tightness throughout the body and spinal compression = pain and immobility. Yoga practise can help reverse this process.

Also balance training is one of the most important benefits of yoga, especially as you get older. Training our balance improves our posture, by stabilizing the core and functionality to help us move more efficiently through everyday life. Just our posture can make us look and feel more vital.

Combining movement and deep breathing will increase our blood flow and warm up muscles. Holding poses over the course of several breaths helps build muscular strength and endurance. Yoga helps shape long, lean muscles in your legs, arms, back, and abdomen.

When it comes to our breath, most of us take shallow breaths and don't give much thought to how we breathe. Yoga breathing exercises, called pranayama, focus our attention on breathing and teach us how to take deeper breaths, which benefits the entire body on and off the mat.

In case you haven't tried yoga asana practise yet and think all yoga classes are too "slow and boring" - you are wrong. A vinyasa class is intensely physical. Concentrating on what your body is doing + focus on your breath &disengage from your thoughts, will make you break a sweat and bring calmness to your mind!

Perhaps one of the best benefits of barre is that it's fun! It incorporates the use of upbeat music and engaging choreography. When working out is fun and enjoyable, your chances of staying with the program greatly increase. The barre method also offers quick results. Barre helps strengthen and tone your muscles without increasing bulk, and it improves your posture. It also increases cardiovascular endurance and metabolism.

Barre will dial up your core, strengthening the deep muscles in the abdominal and obliques. It will also increase stability in your shoulders and hips, supporting your joints, improving flexibility and helping you move with greater efficiency and control. With time your posture will improve and give your body lean and toned look.

The mental benefits of barre are similar to yoga and Pilates, as it effectively increases mind-body awareness and mental clarity during classes. Focus and concentration are required to perform the small precise movements utilized in barre. If you allow your mind to concentrate solely on your technique and breathing, it will increases feelings of presence and reduce stress levels and anxiety.

In very simple terms, yoga is a system for bringing balance into your body and mind, for health and happiness. It involves the physical practice of yoga postures called asanas, and breathing exercises called pranayama that you can practice anywhere. Yoga also includes meditation, self-enquiry and the study of yoga philosophy. 'Yoga' in the Western world tends to focus mostly on the physical asana practice &the yoga poses. This is a great place to start but there is so much more to discover as you develop your yoga practice.
