Congratulations, you've found the treasure at the end of the rainbow - Studio Birkhane. Our ambition is to create a magical place to move your body, mind and soul through our own transmission of yoga. Our ambition is to challenge the idea of what a yoga studio should look and feel like. Imagine that a yogi would open a studio in Pabo Picasso's atelier in Alvar Alto's garage if he lived on Gotland. You get the idea, right? We who run the studio are Patrik and Yolanta Birkhane. Patrik likes Hatha, Yolanta likes Vinyasa. In between those two, anything can happen.

who are we?
I'm Yolanta...
As the days, months, years, each class pass, I unfurl not just another layer of Yoga, but another layer of myself - discovering the depths of what makes me me, and showing me time and again why each and every moment we exist is so very special. My hope is to open up these moments of discovery to you and to create a playful, curious and dedicated space for both beginners and more experienced yogis who take my classes. A space where you get the opportunity to land into yourself and/or simply move to funky music, just because it's fun.

Besides teaching yoga, I am also passionated about documenting life and specialize in wedding, portrait and lifestyle photography. You can find my photography work here.

Roughly four years ago I discovered yoga, and honestly, I was not a big fan at first. The old performer part of me craved super high intensity work outs and quick results, and yoga felt too "slow and boring" ;) But I continued to practice, since I longed more and more for the feeling of being in touch with myself, my body & my authentic body expression.

For 20 years, I used to be a circus artist. I have tried and done all the disciplines in the circus field you can imagine, but my last 9 years I specialised in aerial rope/corde lisse.
My circus experiences have provided me with excellent tools to lead yoga practitioners safely into some of the more "acrobatic" poses as well, approaching each pose in steps and offering tips to build up to them. However, yoga is not about getting in the perfect pose, but to feel and connect with ourselves through the pose.

Yoga+meditation is curiosity, joy and staying with myself. For many of us, the thinking mind runs the show, which is why it is so valuable to get back in our bodies. My monkey mind for ex. can get caught in to do's or fear-loops. My daily practice helps me to slow down and bring back acceptance to daily life and myself. Accepting one's situation just as it is right now is a way to decrease suffering. It is taking responsibility for one's actions and living a life based on love instead of fear.

During my classes you will enjoy flow sessions to align and center the body to funky good music that can be a tool for your transformation and introspection. We will warm up, peak, slow down and end up in savasana where the last 10 minutes may offer a feeling of elation and joy. During the classes, it's beautiful to find your body expression, test boundaries and try new things, while it's just as important to listen in and respect yourself, and your body. Yoga, although challenging, should be fun. And we bring the attitude on the mat with us off the mat, so don't take it too seriously!

I hope to see you soon on one of our yoga mats on your way to self exploration and fearlessness. There is nothing more satisfying than truly take time and space to prioritize yourself and your wellbeing.

...and I'm Patrik
My main styles of yoga are Hatha and Yin, but I'm not very orthodox. I like to create classes that energizes the mind, body and soul, that leaves you feeling something. I like to fill my classes with viby music, spontaneous wisdom dropping and perhaps even an occasional dance to wrap it all up. I'll do my best to get you out of your head and into your body. Besides yoga, I also help people in different stages of their personal development as a life coach.

Yoga (as well as life) is a practice of acceptance. Acceptance of where you are in this present moment. It is your body that tells you how far you can go. It doesn't matter where you think want to be, because this is where you are now. The same goes for life. So by practicing acceptance for where you are on the mat, you also learn to accept where you are in the process of your life.

The body is the vessel we have for our human experience. It is the home of all our senses. Have you ever thought about what a cool thing it is that you we're here at all? We all face the same fact: We are going to die. But while you are still alive, why not give you mind, body and spirit some love? For me, Yoga is one way of doing that.

my teaching style
I'm especially passionate about teaching yoga to people who don't think yoga is for them. I hear so many people, especially men, saying: "I'm not flexible enough to do yoga". As a stiff former office worker myself I know this simply isn't true. Quite the opposite! The stiffer you are, the more beneficial a yoga practice can be for you. In my early years of exploring yoga, I did a lot of beginner's mistakes that inflexible (and performance driven!) people do. I pushed myself into poses that my body wasn't ready for, leading to injuries. I also did fast paced and repetitive classes before knowing my body or the poses, which to be honest is pretty useless if you are stiff and/or new to yoga. It's like driving a car on the sixth gear before having a driver's license. In my classes it's ok to be and feel like a beginner. I still do! With a beginners mind, you admit that you don't know everything, but is willing to learn anything. My intention is for you to feel comfortable in approaching yoga with curiosity instead of holding limiting beliefs about yourself. Yoga is not about using your body to get into poses, but using the poses to get into your body. So as long as you have a body, you can do yoga!

I hope to see you in our studio!
